Community Art Project: My purpose in making this community art project was to make an art piece which spoke to those who were not in society’s norm currently or in the past. I wanted to Show the transition that has been made in our society from White Christian men, to White Christian men and White Christian women, to African American men and women and to men and women of different skin colors, religions and sexual orientation. Illustrating the struggle of minorities in the United States over the last 300 years.
About this painting My art piece is a depiction of Louise von Mecklenburg-Strelitz. She was the Queen consort of Prussia as wife of Fredrick William III from 1797-1810. I chose her because I feel like she truly embodied the Prussian virtues most importantly Disziplin, Fleiß, Mut and True. Discipline, Diligent, Courage and Loyalty. The reason I feel that she embodies these virtues is because during the times of Napoleonic wars she went to plead with Napoleon for favorable terms of surrender. Their meeting was unsuccessful but it led to Louise to become revered as “the soul of national virtue”. She died young at the age of 34 It is said to have “preserved her youth in the memory of posterity”, and caused Napoleon to reportedly remark the king “has lost his best minister”.
